One of my interests- Brad and Jen

Well as you would know if you read my profile, I have wondered why Jen and Brad broke up and so decided to watch the Primetime interview of Brad with Diane Sawyer.... Well my heart was broken! but it has nothing to with Brad or Jen or Angelina for that matter. Two things really struck me...one was that if you Google Brad Pit, there are over half a million hits on the web...he was asked about this and he (Brad) thought it was absurd...it is, while people are starving and dying in the country where I was born I watch a TV show because of celebraity obession..pop culutre junkie that I am. Well I did receive a message about the One Campagin www.one.org if you want to learn more. I can't seem to find the Canadian connection but will keep trying and let you all know..

What does this mean practically? How can I change my every day to make a difference. With $15 a year, a child in Africa can go to school. I need to re-evaluate my needs and wants...I often feel so sorry for myself.

The second thing that struck me was in a segment where the team is visiting a hospital and Brad describes just touching a child who had not been touched for a while because there were too many babies and too few nurses...with one touch the child was revived a bit. Let us take the gift of time when we have it to hug our kids, maybe that is 400 billion times more important then Piano lessons and getting to Soccer on time...maybe we need to cut some activities out of our lives and just be.

hmmm. I have to soak in a hot tub of clean water with a cold drink from my electric fridge and think before I go to my cozy bed with the $300 sheets/blankets on it.. woe is me.

It's probably not very original of me, but I do think that people have used celebrity (nowadays), and royalty (in older times), and various other cults of personality, as a way to transfer worship from the Invisible God onto visible gods, gods of our own creation. I think it's deeply seated in the human psyche that we must worship, and this desire to worship can be transferred to celebrities, the rich and powerful, hunky guys, or gorgeous babes.

Currently, I have a strong weakness for gorgeous Indian babes. Especially Kajol, from "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai". :-)

I think I would be more concerned about it if I had more time to think about it while sitting in my jacuzi... Unfortunately my jacuzi isn't working right now, so I can be concerned with the rest of the world...

KIDDING!!!

Yes, it is hard to reconcile the relative wealth we enjoy with the poverty others experience.

However, it did strike me how happy those in a third world country are with very little, compared to how unhappy I am with much... Perhaps there is a lesson there.

I'll ponder it some more... when my jacuzi is fixed.

Hey! Where you being sarcastic there at the end?

As much as I hate Brad Pitt (my gf is in love with him) I'm glad to hear he's doing something with his power.

Well, I should clarify. I don't actually hate Brad Pitt. I loved him in Fight Club, Snatch, The Mexican, you name it. He's a great actor. No really! He's awesome. It's just annoying to have a world standard for what a 'hot' man looks like. But still, I don't "hate" Brad Pitt.

Interesting idea that we are programmed to worship...hmmm I have to ponder on that when Erica's hottub is fixed and she invites me over (=

Seriouly though, I think you have really hit on something. The question then becomes how to we divert our worship? Cut ourselves off from TV movies, money, go be monks? I have seriouly been thinking again, I do this once or twice a year, about how much TV I watch and how I spend my time. Then I really think that I am able to relate to a whole group of people at work lets says because I am up on TV and we have very good interesting life changing discussions based on something in a show or movie.

again, I need that hottub!

We are working on it...

E called "the place" to get "the guy" to come out and fix it. We are on a waiting list...

When it is finally fixed, though, I think we'll need to have a "My Hot Tub is finally fixed" party - where we can contemplate the plite of others around the world over Martini's!

The sheets alone were not $300 the whole set, comforter, bed skirt, sheets, pillows, pillow shams etc. But you are right, we are living in the Lapps of luxury. he he

PS The cost more because we have a Kin g Size bed.
